29th June at 7pm - The BluTone Band Plays Oakington Village Day

Still playing with the Boss Nextone Artist!

The Boss Nextone Artist changed everything for me!

Since buying this amp in early 2022, I have not looked back.  It is not a valve amp, technically not a modelling amp but an awesome tweakable amp that allows the user to work with different power stages based on tube configurations such as 6v6, 6L6 (US Style) EL34 and EL84 (UK Style) tube set ups.
Personally I use it mostly as a pedal platform but the onboard tremolo and delay make this amp a versatile tone deliverer in most settings.
This amp is 80 watts (simulated tube power rating) and I probably should have gone for the Nextone Stage at 40W as I simply have not cranked this amp at all.  It is LOUD!  The beauty is that the head room is awesome and for practising you can set it to 40W or 0.5W.  It even lets you output the signal for recording via USB or jack.  You even get to play with the settings on a PC using the USB cable.

Have a listen and tell me what you think?

I tend not to connect my amps directly to the PC when recording opting to use a simple camera mic on my DJI Pocket . I think it gives a more realistic sounds for most hobbyists such as myself.

The guitar is my PRS SE Starla which you can find out more about in previous articles - click here.

Hands on comparison with the Fender Player Plus Nashville Telecaster and the Fender Player Standard Telecaster.

I tried out two almost identical guitars from Fender in the same Butterscotch finish at PMT Cambridge.  The most significant difference between the two being the middle pick up on one of them.  Yes, I have had the opportunity to try out the Fender Player Plus Nashville Telecaster and compare it with the Fender Player Telecaster.  Is the Nashville going to be the obvious choice in terms of the better guitar just because it has more features and a higher price tag?  Let's see with this hands-on comparison. Setting the scene... In my home town we have only one guitar shop, PMT Cambridge.  They very kindly allowed me to try both of these guitars and the amp of choice was the Boss Katana set to edge of breakup. In my head I wanted to see if the simplicity of the standard telecaster won against the more feature rich Nashville.  It is an unfair comparison in this case as I am comparing the Player version of one with the higher spec Player Plus version of t...

The Vintage V6 Icon Full Review: Don't buy a Fender Stratocaster until you have tried this guitar!

I was recently given the opportunity to try out a loan Vintage V6 Icon electric guitar.  Given that this is a cheap to mid priced guitar modelled on the Fender Stratocaster was I really going to fall in love with it? In this article I am going to share my thoughts on the Vintage V6 Icon after having played with it for for a few weeks.   I have jammed with this guitar... I have taken this guitar to band practise... ... and I have simply grabbed it throughout the day as I have worked from home.  By now I think I know it pretty well but would I recommend it and why? What were my initial impressions? My initial impressions were summed up in my first YouTube video about this guitar which can be seen below: Here are the specifications of the Vintage V6 Icon as lifted from the Vintage website... Vibrato: The Wilkinson WVC vibrato bridge featured on the Vintage V6 is a masterpiece of detail. Positive location, 6 screw design provides return to pitch accuracy; perpendi...

The Cort G290 fat II Review. Solid as a Rock Guitar.

There are millions of S-Style guitars out there and the Cort G290 Fat ii is a mid range priced S-Style with a HH format that is a reliable workhorse guitar.  Read on to find out more. For those of you who come to my gigs. you will be familiar with The Druid aka my mate Andrew Keen.  Over this past year we have been avidly devouring guitar based videos and reviews and a couple of weeks ago I got a text from him saying that he had watched Darrell Braun's review of the Cort G290 Fat ii guitar. Years ago I had heard that Cort had a reputation for poor workmanship but I had no experience of them until I purchased my PRS SE Starla which of course is made for PRS under license by Cort.  The workmanship on the Starla was amazing so when Drew texted me to say that he had watched the above video and then placed an order on impulse, I knew it had to be good and I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. The Cort G290 ii: What did I think? Drew brought his guitar round last Frid...
